It's OKAY Not To Have Life Figured Out In Your 20s

So, this is a different type of blog post for me. Usually I am happy, outgoing, and optimistic about everything, but lately I've been down about school. I am almost 24 years old, and I have no idea what I want to do with my life (career wise). I have been in college since I graduated high school, doing the normal thing, switching majors around until I found one I liked, not even paying attention to how long it was going to make me wait to graduate. Now, that I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I think is this really what I want to do? I've spent the last 5 years in college, just to what? Work for 30 years? Doesn't sound fun. That is why it is so important for me to find something I LOVE to do. It's not work if you love it, right?

I am here to tell all you twenty-somethings, it is OKAY not to have your life figured out. These are the years to explore, find true love, be a little crazy, be with your best friends, road trip, drink lots, etc. Even though you may feel down sometimes thinking you don't have anything figured out, while everyone else does, just remember THIS is your plan. Social media has become the hit of the 21st century, it's not real unless you post it on social media right? Everyday you see someone get engaged or married, someone got a job or promotion, another just graduated college (for me), one just found out she is pregnant or is going into labor, more of your friends are going on road trip after road trip, someone just bought their first house. Just because this isn't you, doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. You're still finding yourself, who you want to be and creating memories in the process. Adolescence really doesn't end until 25. You'll have more experiences, more time to find out your strengths and weaknesses for the grown up job you will encounter one day.

So here, I give you a few reasons why it is absolutely OKAY not to have your life figured out in your 20s:

  • Jobs and career changes happen all the time
  • You have more time to adventure
  • You have more time to learn exactly what you want
  • You'll gain more experience
  • You'll realize WHAT you're good at
  • You learn how to stand on your own two feet
  • You get to meet countless number of people

So, if you're having one of those days (like I am today), just remember you're not on a time limit in your 20s. You have a decade to make the best memories of your life, to adventure, find true love, go places you've never gone, do things you've never done, stay in school for as long as you want (I am definitely just kidding!).

xoxo
